In this lesson we are going to learn the letters «ain» and «ghain». Here is how they look:

These two have the same shape but differ in the presence of a «dot» on the top of «ghain».

The letter «ain»

The letter «ain» is pronounced with some tension in the throat, which is quite hard to do, so it also should be studied with a teacher.

The apostrophe in the transcription means that the letter is pronounced with the tension in the throat. This is what it looks like at the beginning, middle and end of a word:

The letter «ghain»

The letter «ghain» is pronounced a bit softer than «ain». It has no equivalents in English but is similar to «gh»/«gr», the sound made when gargling. The letter «ghain» with vowels:
