This sign ا۠ is met in ‘alif’ in seven words in the Quran.

There are seven words in the Quran in which the letter «alif» is read only when stopping. «Alif» is not read when combining this word with the following.

1. The word لَّـٰكِنَّا۠ in surah 18 ‘Al-Kahf’, 38 ayah

2. The word ٱلظُّنُونَا۠ in surah 33 ‘Al-Ahzab’, 10 ayah

7. The word أَنَا۠ everywhere where it is met.

Note:

In the wordسَلَـٰسِلَا۠ when pausing, a stop is allowed to be made on alif سَلَاسِلَا or on sukoon سَلَاسِلْ.

Also the madd letters are not read at the end of a word if the following letter has sukoon or shadda (so we exclude hamzah al-wasl and lam shamsia). So, when two saakins meet, the madd letters are written but not read. It is worth reminding that madd letters always have sukoon, it is just not written.
