Tashdeed means doubling of a letter. In the Arabic language, a special shaddah symbol is used to indicate that a letter needs to be doubled during pronunciation, i.e. to strengthen its reading. It looks like this:
This phenomenon of doubling letters is called tashdeed-strengthening. This symbol is always placed on top of a letter, like this:
